The album CLARK2 (ShLP07, 2020) is a formal unity of three levels:
One metaphysical, one transient, and one phenomenologically interactive. Content-wise, the music makes use of processual repetition, the imagined and calculated potential of iteration, disintegration, delay, and modulation. Thematically, it addresses various aspects of our earthly present and inklings of an extraterrestrial future, the ‘digital natives’, climate collapse, and the world of automation in which we voluntarily give up control to avoid work. CLARK2 is the follow-up album to CLARK1 (2016), which explored fantasies of extraterrestrial pasts.
Almost all great narratives are about a voluntary or involuntary journey. The departure from familiar places out into an unknown world is also fascinating because it is always a journey of the narrator or the protagonist to themselves. Thus Island Destinity, the title already carries the narrative in itself, with its epic length can definitely be seen as a travel narrative. The piece begins, but one is already on the road for some time. The steady, sustained tempo has proven itself for a long journey, saving energy and allowing for close observation of the landscapes passed through. All senses are activated to the utmost and one attaches importance to every detail, haptic, optical or acoustic. The light, different from what you know, charges every detail with magic, you react to every movement.
But a journey that does not reach a destination becomes a threatening, infinite state, a curse, infinite aimlessness….
Das Album CLARK2 (ShLP07, 2020) ist eine formale Einheit dreier Ebenen:
einer metaphysischen, einer vorübergehenden und einer phänomenologisch interaktiven. Inhaltlich bedient sich die Musik prozessualer Wiederholung, dem imaginären und berechneten Potenzial von Iteration, Desintegration, Verzögerung und Modulation. Thematisch behandelt es die verschiedenen Aspekte unserer irdischen Gegenwart und Ahnungen einer außerirdischen Zukunft, die ’digital natives’, den Klimakollaps und die Welt der Automatisierung in der wir freiwillig Kontrolle aufgeben um Arbeit zu vermeiden. CLARK2 ist das Nachfolger Album von CLARK1 (2016), das Fantasien extraterrestrischer Vergangenheiten untersuchte.
Fast alle großen Erzählungen handeln von einer freiwilligen oder unfreiwilligen Reise. Der Aufbruch aus den bekannten Orten hinaus in eine unbekannte Welt ist auch deshalb so faszinierend, weil es immer auch eine Reise des Erzählers oder des Protagonisten zu sich selbst ist. So ist auch Island Destinity, der Titel trägt die Erzählung schon in sich, mit seiner epischen Länge durchaus als Reise-Erzählung zu sehen. Das Stück beginnt, aber man ist schon einige Zeit unterwegs. Das gleichmässige, getragene Tempo hat sich für eine langen Weg bewährt und spart Kraft und ermöglicht ein genaues Betrachten der durchfahrenen Landschaften. Alle Sinne sind aufs äußerste aktiviert und man misst jedem Detail, haptischer, optischer oder akustischer Natur Bedeutung zu.
Das Licht, anders als man es kennt lädt jedes Detail mit Magie auf , man reagiert auf jede Bewegung.
Doch eine Reise, die nicht an ein Ziel gelangt wird zu einem bedrohlichen, unendlichen Zustand, einem Fluch, unendliche Ziellosigkeit….
